Hunting and Fauna: Pistoia, the Province requires hunting in derogation of the Torraiolo Pigeon following the numerous reports of damage.
We have received notice that following the numerous requests for damages received by the province and ATC in the last year, the province of Pistoia has decided to request the Tuscany region for authorization to withdraw the Colombo torraiolo (Columba Livia) in accordance with the letter "A" of the first paragraph of Article 9 of Directive 2009/147 / EC. In this period of great economic difficulties, in which the funds to compensate for damages are increasingly scarce, and farmers are increasingly in difficulty, the simple containment activity pursuant to art. 37 of the regional law on hunting, is no longer able to sufficiently mitigate the impact of these birds on crops. This is why the Pistoia Hunting Associations applaud the initiative of the Province which hopefully will not find obstacles in the approval process in the region, as the request for a waiver for the transfer never found them.
We remind you that the funds for the compensation of damages caused by animals in agriculture come from the concession fees paid by the hunters and therefore do not burden the community. But surely, if there are no damages to be paid, the administration will find a way to allocate them to more profitable operations for the protection of the territory and the fauna that inhabits it.
