As announced byAssociation of Ornithological Studies of Southern Italy, the Campania Region sent to theISPRA the text of hunting calendar 2018-2019. The request of the non-profit organization was accepted and consequently the pochard was left out of the list of huntable species. The association made itself heard in February with a technical and scientific document, explaining how the animal is declining as regards the population.
ASOIM is singing victory, but there has been no lack of opposing initiatives that have affected other areas of our country. For theACMA (Association of Aquatic Migrant Hunters) the pochard is the only huntable duck that has been in decline for some time and is likely to end up among the protected species as far as Europe is concerned. The association has asked for help to continue to keep the species among those huntable. The invitation was addressed to hunters, called to fill in and have them fill in a table: this information should avoid changing the status.
A very similar initiative has already made it possible to keep the lapwing huntable. The important data in this case are, among others, the total hunting days, including those without culling, as well as the average number of hunters for each hunting day. Now we expect a response from the hunting world of Campania.
