Hunting: Sardinia, the new hunting calendar for the 2013-14 hunting season is already being appealed to the European Union by animal welfare associations.
Appeal to the European Union by Amici della Terra, the Legal Intervention Group and the League for the Abolition of Hunting against the Regional Hunting Calendar of Sardinia. The ecological associations have forwarded the documentation to the European Commission and the Petitions Commission of the European Parliament. "Still - they explain in a note - no environmental impact assessment procedure has been carried out with regard to hunting in areas classified as sites of community importance (Sic) and / or special protection areas (Zps) respectively pursuant to directive no. .92 / 43 / EEC on the protection of natural and semi-natural habitats, fauna, flora, and 9/147 / EC on the protection of wild birds, as required by EU and national jurisprudence and already requested by the Higher Institute for Environmental Protection and Research. The Ministry of the Environment and the Regional Department of the Environment (Nature Protection Service and Impact Assessment Service) were also involved in the environmental request ”.
"Having noted the low environmental sensitivity in the preparation of the regional hunting calendar, as well as the persistent absence of the hunter-territory link - conclude the environmental associations - all that remains is the legal ground to re-establish acceptable conditions for the management of the island's wildlife heritage".
