Il Administrative Justice Council of Sicily has decided to accept the appeal of the associations Legambiente, LIPU and WWF against the island's hunting calendar relating to 2018-2019 season. In a nutshell, the CGA agreed with the Regional Administrative Court which in September had accepted the same appeal.
Here's what the judges wrote for motivate their decision: "The disputed issues, related to specialist assessments and assessments, require an in-depth examination of the preliminary investigation, in order to decide the degree of reliability of the choices made by the Region in deviation from the ISPRA opinion; it is necessary to have an official technical consultancy ".
All this means that an expert will have to analyze the reasons why the Sicily Region has indicated the increase in hunting periods for some species in its calendar, authorizing the collection of wild rabbits in the face of a decrease in the population. ISPRA had rejected the text precisely on these points. Environmental and animal welfare associations they obviously rejoiced at the Council's ruling waiting for the appointed expert to produce his report on hunting in Sicily.
