The Bergamo section of the Italian Federation of Hunting announced a petition launched by the mayor of the orobico municipality of Sedrina, Stephen Micheli, to safeguard the roccoli. As explained in the text, the municipal area is characterized by the presence of four ancient roccoli, used to capture wild birds and dating back to around the 300th century. Each has a name and is run by a different family - it's about Fontanù, Pràt, Pracc Parì e Benac. They represent a cultural system of environmental reorganization, as well as a historical defense and the memory of traditions.
In a nutshell, the community can find a strong point in roccoli, in that they improve the quality of the mountain landscape and have a more than positive impact on the local economy. Since last summer (July 2015 to be precise), the Senate has approved an article already passed by the House and concerning the ban on the capture and use of nets for the supply of live decoys. In this way the end of the coils and was imposed in a short time they could even disappear.
The Bergamo municipality is very worried about the negative consequences that would materialize due to the closure, in particular the abandonment and neglect of many portions of the territory, all with heavy economic and environmental costs. The petition serves precisely to launch an appeal to the institutions, so that they address the problem as soon as possible. Another request is to transmit the resolution to the higher government bodies, without forgetting that the same resolution was legally passed and can be executed immediately.
