Poaching: Avellino, stopped by the Carabinieri after killing a large boar with an artisanal clandestine weapon inside the Parco dei Monti Picentini, one of the poachers arrested.
With the end of the hunting season for wild boar hunting, the Carabinieri of the Compagnia di Montella carried out a series of services within the protected places such as the Parco dei Monti Picentini, where even in the past cases of poaching had been recorded, especially in the weekend. The constant checks also stem from some unpleasant incidents that occurred in the past, when some hunter was hit by stray pellets fired during numerous hunting trips. As part of these services, comforted by the fruitful information activity and some information ideas deriving from the in-depth knowledge of the environment and local realities, the Carabinieri "caught" two poachers who had just killed a wild boar weighing over 100 kg. The soldiers, hearing the shots, intercepted the poachers; one of them, the one who had shot, at the sight of the Carabinieri tried to escape, but was immediately blocked. The immediate control then made it possible to seize the weapon used for hunting and, from the verifications carried out, it was found to be handcrafted and therefore to be considered clandestine weapon.
The subsequent search at the poacher's home made it possible to find other parts of rifles ready to be assembled in order to make other clandestine weapons. The poacher in possession of the clandestine weapon was arrested and taken to the Bellizzi Irpino prison while his accomplice was denounced in a state of freedom. All the material found, the weapons and related ammunition were confiscated.
