The Minister of the Environment and Land Protection, Gianluca Galletti, met with the provincial representatives ofFree Hunting Association of Lecce. The Apulian delegation was led by the president Paul Sparvoli, but they were also present Flavio Maglio, technical director ofTerritorial area of Salento hunting, Louis DeLeo, number one of the Lecce City club, the biologist Pier Paolo Losavio and the former president of the Provincial Hunting Commission Mario Romano. The appointment was eagerly awaited, also because the Lecce representatives themselves had requested it on more than one occasion. What did we talk about specifically?
The final balance was judged positively by Libera Caccia, as the foundations were laid for a serious and constructive confrontation, what was missing until a few days ago due to a series of difficulties. In particular, the association referred to the applications presented and never accepted, a situation that forced her to take legal action against ministerial measures who appeared unmotivated and punitive beyond all means. President Sparvoli wanted to underline, among other things, the serious and correct behavior of the category of hunters, which are subject to discriminatory attacks without any justification.
We could not miss the discussion regarding the early closure of the hunt and the choice of the Council of Ministers on song thrush, cesena and woodcock (Puglia is one of the regions involved). A further topic of comparison was that relating to the Action Plan for the Protection of the Marsican Bear (Patrom), with the involvement of the Ministry, hunting associations and ISPRA. Libera Caccia reminded the holder of the dicastery that he had never shirked his responsibilities and that he had acted rigorously and in compliance with the law: for this reason, the institution was requested in a very short time. a technical discussion table, in which ministry experts, regions and hunting associations should participate in deciding the new hunting calendars.
Minister Galletti said he was willing to reconsider the government's position in this regard, provided that data is provided to avoid Community infringement procedures. So the talks will continue and this meeting will not be the only one. Flavio Maglio delivered to Galletti himself a rather substantial technical-scientific documentation: this is material prepared by the Puglia Region for what concerns wildlife management. In addition, Libera Caccia said it was ready to send the documents and data in its possession to the Ministry to argue the reasons.
