The section of Rovigo of Italian Federation of Hunting organized the seventh edition of the Memorial named after Alcide Balzan: it is a race of Fossa clay pigeon shooting which is open to all hunters who are in possession of a license for firearms and valid insurance. The obligation imposed on the participants in this case is to use hunting rifles only. The Memorial will take place at the “Le Tre Piume” shooting range in Agna, in the province of Padua. The start is set for 10 and there will be prizes offered by the Balzan family in memory of their loved one. The award ceremony will concern the first three classified in the "Ladies" category, but also the first three Juniors (up to the twentieth year of age), the first three classified up to the sixtieth year, the first three classified aged between 61 and 70 and the first three from the 71st year onwards.
This shot involves shooting by the hunters on a straight line placed parallel to fifteen meters behind the pit where the machines that throw the clay pigeons are located. The shooter waits for the launch with the rifle held up and loaded with two shots and orders the launch by voice. The main element of difficulty is represented by the direction of the target, since it can vary even though the exit time is known, and the shooter has the task of intercepting the direction.
Furthermore, the direction can vary on the horizontal plane by ninety degrees, without forgetting that the height can also undergo changes, from one and a half to three and a half meters. The last edition of the Memorial Balzan, also held on 25 April, saw the participation of 46 competitors who took turns on the Olympic Pit on 25 targets. Among the Juniores triumphed a very promising young man, Mattia Siviero, able to score an interesting 22/25.
This race is named after Alcide Balzan, for several years municipal president of Crespino, a small town of about two thousand inhabitants in the province of Rovigo and also famous for having been the historical-cinematographic background for the television drama “Il mulino del Po”. The family is also well known in the city and throughout Rovigo, to the point that the hunters participating in the various editions come mainly from the area, a nice way to honor the memory of the fellow citizen and to showcase skills and technical characteristics.
