Some professionals of the English and German school apply the so-called puppy tests, particular tests that should measure the degree of readiness and intelligence of the puppy in its different stages of development and even if the puppy will then have a temperament suitable for whoever must own it. The tests must be performed when the children have completed at least the seventh week and not after the twelfth.
The mother is brought out, the enclosure is entered in the company of the breeder and the behavior of the young is carefully observed. who will seek refuge in a corner, who will look at the stranger with a questioning expression and finally who will not show any distrust. Head towards a little one as if you wanted to run over it, but blocking it at a few tens of centimeters: the fearful will move away, the fearful will run away in trouble, others instead, and they are the safest will be able to pounce on the shoe trying to bite it as if they had accepted the invitation to a game.
A completion of this first test can be obtained from the next experiment. Each puppy should be placed on a table and left alone for no more than two minutes.
The fearful remain motionless, the tail between the paws, ready to cry for help, the daring try to explore the environment after a first moment of perplexity.
Adjust your choice accordingly.
According to some, the so-called foreign object test is also important. It is much less complicated than the definition suggests.
An old shoe or a rolled-up piece of paper is thrown among the puppies and their behavior is observed: even in the face of an unusual fact, the balanced person will try, after a first moment of uncertainty, to realize what has happened, the shy or the fearful, on the other hand, flee or in any case move away.
