The Regional Council of Molise officially approved the resolution governing the wild boar selection hunting. Nicholas Knight, Councilor for Agriculture, remarked how the problems caused by the excessive number of ungulates in this territory are serious, given that the specimens have increased due to man andabsence of natural predators. Damage to the environment, to cultivated land and to farms is unfortunately a fact.
The selection hunt will aim maintaining adequate density, without affecting the reproduction rate and the fertility of wild animals. The Territorial Areas of Molise Hunting (Campobasso, Termoli and Isernia) are at work right now to manage and prepare the courses that will train future selection hunters. It is hoped, as Cavaliere himself pointed out, that the lessons will take place by mid-January.
The actual hunting activity is scheduled to start in early April 2019, once the Molise season is over. The commissioner finally concluded: "The commitment assumed by the undersigned and by the president Donato Toma is maintained through an initiative that will certainly not be exhaustive, but which certainly represents a fundamental starting point and will help, in a phase of full emergency, to reduce the number of wild boars in the region ”.
