Federcaccia Calabria and the Regional Coordination of Hunting Associations, after days and days of attempts, communications, supply of data to the competent regional offices, must unfortunately point out that the WIN on the calendar fired by the Territory and Environment Department is unacceptably penalizing for Calabrian hunters, who after a month of non-activity with serious damage, even economic, find a solution to the problem instead of a series of unmotivated constraints that once introduced would remain on their shoulders definitively. A "solution" that smacks of mockery and raises the legitimate suspicion that driving it is the will to take advantage of the opportunity to steal more huntable territory in a region that already sees the percentage of protected areas set by national legislation largely exceeded and regional.
While acknowledging the Councilor Gallo and the Agriculture Department Hunting Office - with whom we have collaborated this month, as always in the past, as Coordination of the Hunting Associations above all thanks to the help of the technicians of the National Studies and Research Office of Federcaccia - to have lavished its commitment in the search for a solution, what has been decreed and waiting to be voted on in the council, is not acceptable. The ban on the use of ammunition containing lead shot is totally unjustified even in all 185 Calabrian SACs, which introduces a general ban on dry areas, overcoming both national and international legislation and also the proposals under discussion at the European Union in these days.
We remember in fact that today the ban is motivated only in wet areas and not in land areas. Moreover, it was not difficult to restrict, even in the SACs, the ban on wetlands, as already in place in the SPAs. Then there is the absurd ban on the use of hunting dogs in 10 SACs (Fiumara Saracena, Fiumara Avena, Fiumara Trionto, Casoni di Sibari, Fiumara Melito, Monte Fuscaldo, Murge di Strongoli, Madama Lucrezia, Valle Moio, Monte Scrisi ), inserted without a plausible reason and some reference to the species that would be adversely affected. This prohibition would penalize both hunters who use the dog and the conservation objectives linked to the wild boar, causing damage to the crops and to the same species that are to be protected, since hunting in pursuit of the species is made impossible. It is worth remembering that only a few days ago ISPRA itself, through the mouth of Dr. Piero Genovesi, admitted that at the moment the collection of the wild boar was the only valid way to concretely limit its number and damage.
A problem that certainly cannot be solved by thinking of relying on selective sampling, a form of hunting in which, moreover, the use of the blood dog often takes place to find the animals not left in place after the shot. Another unacceptable measure is the ban on hunting throughout the territory of the "Lago La Vota" SAC, a complex of coastal wetlands, in which we have proposed solutions that harmonize conservation with the sustainable use of resources, therefore a part that can be hunted and a part to prohibition. We therefore strongly ask the responsible institutions that at least these corrections be made to the proposed text before his vote in the council, considering the current - we repeat it once again - unacceptable, without technical-scientific reasons to support it and heavily punitive for a significant part of the Calabrian population. If for other politicians this is the only Vinca presentable in the Giunta, well it will be politics that will have to take responsibility for an unjustified and further slap in the face given to Calabrian hunters citizens, but also to farmers and all the representatives of those sectors who live in the area. , work and produce.
