On August 6th, the Faunal-Hunting Council, with the definition of the Hunting Calendar for the Agenda 2021/22 season of Calabria. Pending approval by the Regional Council - which should, as reported by Councilor Gallo, happen next 11 August - Federcaccia Calabria, net of some unexpected limitations on some SAC areas of the Natura 2000 Network, considers overall the one illustrated an excellent Calendar, in some respects even better than last year, then in line with what was proposed in the consultation by Federcaccia jointly with the other Calabrian Hunting Associations (Libera Caccia, Enalcaccia, ArciCaccia, ANUUMigratoristi, Italcaccia).
In fact, it is positively emphasized that the calendar substantially traces the proposal which was abundantly discussed and analyzed in the Faunal-Hunting Council. In particular, we highlight; the 5 pre-opening days, set for 1, 4, 5, 11 and 12 September, which will allow the removal of the turtle dove for half a day in the first two (in line with the latest national and EU provisions) and the possibility of using retriever dogs for the recovery of slaughtered animals on all 5 days. The early collection of the quail in the days of 11 and 12 September with the aid for those days of the pointing dog and looking as well as retrieving. The general opening scheduled for September 19th and closing on February 10th 2022. The maintenance of the lapwing among the huntable species.
As far as dog training and training is concerned, this will be allowed already from the approval of the calendar until 12 September, except, of course, in the pre-opening days mentioned above. With reference to the VINCA, with effect on the Areas of the Natura 2000 Network, a disproportionate and unjustified approach is stigmatized in theinhibit hunting as many as 15 SACs in the region: 5 in the province of Cosenza, 2 in the province of Crotone, 1 in the province of Vibo, 5 in the province of Reggio Calabria, in addition to the La Vota lakes in the province of Catanzaro, which are also in a state of pollution due to lack of replacement water and for this we will verify the activities carried out by the entity or managing body. The absolute ban on hunting in SAC areas is not justified, considering that these areas are designated under the Habitats Directive, which does not concern birds, and what negative influences the hunting activity would have on habitats or on animal species other than birds are not mentioned in the justifications.
Even the analysis of the list of inhibited SACs does not report any technical elements that support the hunting ban, while we find the requirement for a ban on turtle dove hunting to be singular, considering that decisions at European level have not given any indication of this, but the reduction of the levy. On the inhibition of these areas and on some other limitations in our opinion equally unjustified, we asked that the Councilorship and the hunting department guarantee the approval of the Calendar and at the same time ask for a review of the Environmental impact assessment in order to recover all or part of the inhibitions and / or limitations, operated by the Environment Department. Federcaccia on this point, as its constant work, will send further observations and / or proposals for a solution to the problem.
Net of the limited inhibitions, however, it promises to be a substantially balanced calendar, which responds to general expectations and above all has taken into account the results resulting from the discussion and consultation tables. We postpone a more detailed examination of the various articles in a comment after the formalization took place (Source: Hunting Federation).
