THETerritorial Hunting Area of Livorno communicated the two dates relating to censuses of mouflons present atIsland of Capraia. This is an activity that concerns the 2017-2018 hunting season and that will take place Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 April. The collaboration of the Tuscan Archipelago National Park will obviously be fundamental and the censuses will take place at dusk and dawn. The Tuscan ATC called for the widest participation.
We are talking about the third largest island of the archipelago after Elba and Giglio, about 64 kilometers from Livorno and just 31 from Corsica. Mouflons are a permanent presence in this area, so much so that Capraia is also known by the nickname of "House of the mouflons".
They were introduced to the island about twenty years ago and have adapted perfectly to the typical climate: they live practically undisturbed in the northern area, more precisely from the plain to the former penal colony. THE groups consisting of females and young they can be observed with some ease in the early hours of the day. The monitoring has begun in 1999 and resulted in several census sessions and a steady increase in the number of animals observed.
