2012-2013 Hunting Calendar also the Province of Siena has approved the new hunting management document in the provincial territory.
In the extraordinary session held yesterday afternoon, July 27, 2012, the Provincial Council of Siena approved the new 2012-13 Hunting Calendar; in general the contents remain those of the previous years with the exception of some substantial changes concerning the selection hunt dictated by the recent modification of the regional legislation.
Due to the changes made to the Regional Law 20/2002, following the appeal pending in the Constitutional Court, with which the opinion of ISPRA was made mandatory regarding the plans and periods of sampling, the definition of the new Sienese Hunting Calendar it was particularly complex especially in the part concerning ungulates and selection hunting.
The provincial councilor for hunting, Anna Maria Betti, commented on the issue, “A change of pace that worries the Province, the ATCs, but also farmers, environmentalists and hunters themselves”.
Continuing, Councilor Betti says, “It was a race against time to guarantee the opening on August 1st. A few hours after the arrival of the ISPRA opinion, an extraordinary council was held and, already in the afternoon, we worked with ATC and Districts to ensure the necessary organization. In fact, compliance with the new regional system entails substantial changes in the times and methods adopted in recent years by the Province of Siena ".
Continuing on the issue, the hunting councilor added, "All the associations present at the consultation table and the ATCs have expressed strong concern about the repercussions of the new measures on the effectiveness of the containment of ungulates, both in terms of damage to agricultural crops and for road accidents. Together they shared a document to bring to the attention of the Tuscany Region and of the interested parties ".
Betti then wanted to clarify, “In recent years, every possible effort has been made to deal with the ungulate emergency, which we will try to carry out despite the lack of fundamental regulatory instruments. For this reason, together with President Bezzini, we are committed to representing these concerns, which are also ours, in all the fora. Last but not least, the greater risk for the safety of hunters, and not only, deriving from having to superimpose the hunting periods to the different species. For 7 August we already have the Prefect's willingness to meet us ”.
Finally, the commissioner Betti concluded by expressing his satisfaction, "We must thank the hunting world, the agricultural and environmental associations and the ATCs for the contribution given in the consultation phase and, more generally, for the daily commitment to a correct management of the fauna. The timing and methods of wild boar hunting remain to be defined, also in order to adapt the Hunting Calendar to regional legislation, which will be the subject of a specific consultation table in which the pre-opening request will also be discussed before forwarding to the Region ".
