An evening dedicated to hunting
With pleasure I participated, together with many other regional, provincial and municipal colleagues, in the evening dedicated to hunting which took place at the Gelso Bianco in Catania on 13 July. I listened carefully to the various interventions of the speakers and, lastly, that of Councilor Sammartino who touched on the many critical issues facing the Sicilian hunting world, demonstrating that he has, however, clear ideas on how to deal with them so that hunting can become an added value for the our Region and not a problem as many detractors would like.
The importance of hunting
In this regard, we would be happy to discuss with the Councilor the results of a research on the importance of hunting in Italy which, on behalf of Federcaccia, was carried out by Nomisma and which was officially presented in a room of the Senate of the Republic in April of this year. The Italian Hunting Federation has always been present and available for collaboration with the Regional Offices and with the Assessors who have followed one another:
· He has always collaborated for the drafting of the hunting calendars and for their defense before the various courts;
· Realized and offered the wild rabbit census project;
· For six years he has been successfully carrying out the project on the Italian Lepre which has allowed the reopening of hunting to trained hunters;
· For three years it has been purchasing satellite and GPS/GSM radio transmitters to be applied to woodcocks for research coordinated by the University of Milan in collaboration with Federcaccia Nazionale and Amici di Scolopax.
Encouraging opening
Federcaccia Sicilia favorably considers Councilor Sammartino's openness to all hunting associations so that a fruitful collaboration can be achieved both for the preparation of the hunting calendars and for all the other problems to be addressed concerning the world of hunting. We hope that this availability becomes a reality in the coming weeks. (The President FIdC Sicily Giuseppe La Russa)
