The green light
Here we go again, the hunting issues linked to the Island of Elba once again concern a very specific species. In the last few hours there has been important news, given that this area has to deal with ungulates, specifically wild boars. It is no coincidence that Maurizio Burlando, director of the Tuscan Archipelago National Park, announced the approval of the resolution for the selective harvesting of these animals.
Population to be resized
This is a text that covers the whole of 2024 and the objective, as happened in previous years, is to reduce the wild population on the island. Their proliferation is putting crops at risk, without forgetting the damage to people and the environment. The plan, in force from 1 January to 31 December, will however be subject to periodic verification. But how will the reductions work specifically?
Disposal of carcasses
Each wild boar killed must be subjected to appropriate identification using an identification band, indicating on it the day and month of killing. According to the provisions of the resolution, the specimens to be favored with regards to sampling are those of the female sex and of reproductive age. Disposal (waste related to evisceration) must take place in compliance with current legislation.
