Health and economic impacts
A meeting between the managers of Fedecaccia Toscana Uct and the regional councilor Simone Bezzini, focused on the problems and critical issues relating to the application of the Regional Council Resolution, concerning the "Regional Plan for urgent interventions for the management, control and eradication of African Swine Fever in breeding pigs and in wild boar species”. An extremely delicate and important topic for what could be the health and economic implications for the agricultural and pig sector but also for the inevitable interconnections with hunting activity and the control of the wild boar species.
Wild boar hunting teams
The Fidc Uct Tuscany regional president Marco Salvadori together with the provincial president of Siena Emilio Verdiani, focused on the central and operational aspects of the provision. Without prejudice to the decisive role of hunters and in particular of the organized system of wild boar hunting teams operating in the districts of Tuscany, in the opinion of the exponents of Fidc_ Uct, a careful evaluation and, if necessary, an appropriate remodulation of some measures and application tools is necessary , contained in the resolution. The new Extraordinary Plan will have to be based on real numbers and forecasts regarding the collection of the wild boar population, both in the territory for scheduled hunting and in public and private wildlife institutes and in protected areas. Therefore, compatible withdrawals also with regards to control activities, taking care to guarantee maximum involvement of the hunting world and the ATCs, avoiding unnecessary conflicts and tensions between the various hunting practices and on withdrawals in suitable areas.
The objectives set by the plan
Councilor Bezzini had the opportunity to underline the importance and centrality of the hunting world on the active management of the problem, reiterating on several occasions his willingness to re-establish the necessary forums for discussion to achieve the objectives set by the plan, in line with the Ministerial and Commissioner provisions but also taking into account the reality of the territories, the legitimate requests expressed and realistically achievable objectives on the basis of objective data and application criteria compatible with the various needs and sensitivities. The meeting ended with the common intention of continuing along the path of in-depth analysis and a timely evaluation of the critical issues and appropriate corrections also in full consultation with the other competent departments and in particular with the Vice President Stefania Saccardi (source: FIDC-UCT).
