Depopulation of the wild boar
On 30 December, the President of Arci Caccia Marche and Head of the Arci Caccia “Laura Conti – Carlo Fermariello” Scientific Committee Gabriele Sperandio, met with the General Director of the Experimental Zooprophylactic Institute of Umbria and Marche and Extraordinary Commissioner for the PSA Prof . Vincent Caputo. The comparison highlighted the strategic importance of the hunting world which must, increasingly and irreversibly, take on technical-scientific skills also in combating the spread of ASF. Commissioner Prof. Caputo, in fact, reported that "the National Plan has set, as the numerical objective assigned to the Regions, 74% depopulation of wild boar due to hunting effort, therefore, the role of the hunter in pursuing this objective is central and indispensable ”.
Safeguarding biodiversity
In reference to the figure of Bioregulator, the Commissioner added "hunters have all it takes to be skillfully trained and trained specifically to be Bioregulators, a new way of approaching the protection of biodiversity through the control of species that can, in various capacities become problematic." President Sperandio, reiterating the correct availability of the regional Association and the Scientific Committee in continuing to promote and convey information with transparency and continuity to its members, wants to be the protagonist of the network of qualified and trained human resources, essential to make the Plan effective to combat the spread of PSA and asked Prof. Caputo to be updated on any further news.
Restrictive hunting areas
The Commissioner, thanking the collaboration of hunters and hunting associations, concluded: "it is my intention to pay great attention, in the coming months, to the areas restricted to hunting and, through the identification of the hunter as a person in charge of public service, to resolve faunal imbalances where necessary. Furthermore, the possibility of financing the AA.TT.CC. is being studied. to operate, through its own bioregulators, in spaces where, for biosecurity reasons, the presence of wild boar is not expected, such as in pig breeding districts" (source: Arci Caccia).
