The hunters of the Pergine Reserve, in the province of Trento, were the protagonists of well 1300 released in 2017, a constant commitment aimed at reducing the number of wild boars in the municipal area. Last year, in fact, the interventions were 1280, divided in different ways according to the seasons. The largest number of releases was made in the fall (776 to be precise), more than double compared to the summer ones (315), while there were another 189 during the hunts for other ungulates.
The data is very interesting, also because it is far higher than that of 2016, when the releases stopped at share 853. The estimates were made known during the annual meeting of the same Reserve, which also discussed the risks and consumption practices relating to game meat. In 2017, then, all assigned ungulates have been killed, with a decisive growth precisely for what concerns the wild boars.
The sedentary wild population is increasing, although in winter it would seem to be less active. Damage to crops and undergrowth is a given, which is why it is asked to expand hunting to control wild boars. These topics will also be discussed at the forestry session on 22 February. The budget of the Trentino reserve ended last year with 45 thousand euros and a surplus of 1500 euros.
