It is these days the news that theCouncilor for agriculture, hunting and fishing of the Tuscany Region, Marco Remaschi wrote a reasoned letter to the Minister of Agriculture Gian Marco Centinaio and to the Minister of the Environment Sergio Costa, to urge their respective departments to evaluate and investigate the possibility of allowing "in derogation" to the current regulatory provisions, the implementation of "experimental plans" of dissuasive foraging. In fact, these practices could contribute to the stabilization of the wild boar population, in the peripheral wooded areas in the presence of adverse climatic conditions, in the manner indicated by the "ISPRA guidelines".
In fact, Ispra itself, in the Guidelines for the management of wild boar in protected areas, states that "... in addition to the methods of direct prevention of damage from wild boar, there are also indirect preventive techniques (dissuasive foraging), substantially attributable to the administration of food complementary, at least partly alternative, to that offered by cultivated plants. By means of artificial foraging, that is, we try to re-propose to the animals conditions of high productivity of the forest which, also offering protection and shelter, becomes an almost exclusively frequented habitat.
Appropriate measures, such as a sufficient dispersion of foraging points and their positioning in "strategic" sectors, allow the animals to be "tied" to the new territory ". Remaschi's request also meets at numerous solicitations put forward several times by the hunting world and by the ATCs themselves, to allow a practice that can give good results in the containment of damage especially in sensitive areas and in particular periods of the year. The word now passes to the respective Ministries for operational choices and for the necessary assessments of merit.
The ungulate affair and above all the management of the wild boar, below the profile of damage to crops and road accidents, continues to be in the spotlight of regional politics. Today, the news that the Agriculture Commission of the Regional Council chaired by Gianni Anselmi (PD), has approved the provision on new areas suited and not suited to the species. Next week the measure will go to the Regional Council for final approval.
