Also the Provincial Federcaccia of Brescia commented on the granting of the derogation as regards the transfer. Here are the words of the association: the Regional Council on the proposal of the Brescia Councilor for Agriculture Fabio Rolfi approved a resolution to authorize by way of derogation the check of the reversal to prevent damage to agricultural crops. Compared to last year some conditions have changed and fortunately they have changed for the better. The starlings that can be cut down will be 8 thousand as authorized by Ispra.
Furthermore, there is no longer the constraint of hunting only in the municipalities where the damage has been reported, but the collection can be authorized throughout the region. Last year the authorized hunters were 100 while this year they will be 600 and the collection can be carried out within 500 meters of crops with hanging fruit, vineyards and apple orchards, and no longer within 100 meters. The withdrawal period is between September 24th and October 31st; in addition, hunters interested in this type of hunting activity must submit an application to the Regional Territorial Offices from 1st to 31st August.
The templates of the questions are not there yet but it is presumable that they will be available at the UTRs from the date set out in the resolution. This is certainly a step forward and we can only note the commitment of the Lombardy Region. The resolution indicates the amount of damages reported and therefore paid in the last ten years, almost 800 thousand euros, even if it is reasonable to think that the damages were far greater and always at the expense of valuable crops such as apple orchards, vineyards and olive groves.
However, we believe that the time has come, also given the political affiliation of the Minister of Agriculture Centinaio, competent in matters of hunting, to reintroduce the starling in the list of huntable species, a choice that would be shared not only by the hunting world but also by the agricultural one.
Perhaps some hunting association has only just discovered the hot water ???
