La Confederation of Tuscan Hunters issued the following statement: "We are aware of appearing obstinate when on several occasions, the CCT has brought to the attention of hunters and hunting associations, the theme of scientific research and data collection, to safeguard the Hunting Calendars and to ensure correct management of the species in the address. The recent appeal to the Council of State against the decision taken by the Tuscan TAR on the Regional Hunting Calendar, is concrete proof of a legal battle which needs to be framed in an even greater effort to increase, with irrefutable data, our contrasting force and our ability to document with scientifically correct parameters, the state of health of a species and the impact that hunting can have on its conservation.
In this riverbed, the project is outlined DATA FROM THE SKY, recently started by the association and which recorded in this first year of experimentation, numerous availability and participation of hunters - detectors, to whom all our thanks go for the fundamental commitment. More specifically, as regards the species woodcock, we reconnected to a broader project put in place by Dr. Alessandro Tedeschi, president of the Association Friends of Scolopax and by the Federcaccia Bird Migration Office. A project that has obtained the patronage of the Ministry of Agricultural, Food and Forestry Policies called "Royal wings".
The aim of the project is to detect some parameters relating to the determination of the ICA (kinegetic index of abundance) and of the ICP (kinegetic index of sampling) in addition to other important elements of knowledge such as the age of the subject, the control in the distribution of samplings between young and adult specimens. The study is providing extremely interesting data on the distribution for decades in the various reference years, on the characteristics of the area of our peninsula for the migration and wintering period. A work in constant evolution therefore, which is getting more and more attention from many passionate woodcockers.
A sensitivity and a cultural and hunting awareness that aims to keep the level of attention on the species high. The woodcock as well as representing a collective heritage is a source of passion and emotion. The hunter must feel responsible in protecting conservation with cultural farsightedness and hunting ethics. Our technical and economic effort goes in this precise direction. To corroborate these considerations, we want to disclose below the link of a very interesting filmed document. A document that combines the magic of migration with the monitoring technique. The truly impressive result is that of flying next to the woodcock "Rosa" (so called), knowing the heritage that this small and mysterious bird carries within its expressive and melancholy eyes ".
