On 17 December, the Administrative Justice Council for the Sicilian Regiona expressed his opinion on the appeal brought against the Region by Legambiente Sicilia, WWF, and that of the Hunting Associations. In the Ordinance issued, the Council, reviewing the decision taken by Tar Sicily, partially accepts the request for suspension of the Sicilian hunting calendar for the season 2018-2019 formulated in the first instance by the Environmental Associations regarding the opening of hunting for small game and quail, suspension of wild rabbit hunting and at the end of the hunt in Cesena, song thrush, redwing thrush, magpie, jay and fox.
The Council, on the other hand, rejected the further requests for suspension of the regional hunting calendar made by the Environmental associations, as regards the opening of hunting for blackbirds, magpies and jays; for the opening of the turtle dove and wood pigeon hunt and, again, relative to the closing date of the woodcock hunt. With regard to the ordinance and the technical advice to which the Council referred, Federcaccia Sicilia considers the decision to close the woodcock and in perspective for the pre-opening to turtledove and wood pigeon satisfactory. Clearly penalizing the choice of the CGA with regard to rabbit hunting, the closure to turdids and for the future the opening to quail.
However, the collaboration given by FIdC to the Region of Sicily in this phase was important and Federcaccia Sicilia hopes to involve its own structure and its own technical offices for the drafting of the calendar for the next season. In any case, the legal dispute is not over yet, because the floor now goes back to the TAR for the hearing on the merits. FIdC and ANUUMigratoristi, Arci Caccia and UN Enalcaccia have intervened in court and will present all the works and arguments necessary to change the decisions of the CGA for the Sicilian hunters for the better.
