Gianni Cantele, president of the regional section of the Puglia of Coldiretti, commented on the proposed law on damage caused by wildlife, protection of the safety of the economic order which was discussed at the Second Permanent Council Commission. The number one of the agricultural association recalled the pressure exerted to obtain adequate solutions to the emergency, even if the numbers are sadly disturbing.
In fact, within ten years, wild boars and wolves have even doubled, a serious risk for agri-food production and the hydrogeological structure of the territory. Coldiretti Puglia therefore hoped for an effective wildlife control in case of failure of the prevention measures: Cantele asked numerical containment activities, but also the removal and monitoring of the fauna itself. The bill is nothing more than an incentive for all hunting strategies to obtain a presence of species compatible with environmental, social and economic needs.
In addition, biometric measurements on culled animals and the training of persons authorized to collect must not be overshadowed. In addition to wild boars and wolves, attention must be paid to transfers (dangerous for the production of olives), alle hares (capable of devouring entire fields of vegetables) and ai cormorants (harmful to aquaculture facilities).
