Fitav: CAS Centers, the numbers that count - Since '92 attendance has more than quadrupled.
As always happens when the time for the closure of the annual competitive activity approaches, which will be celebrated with the competition of the Federal Structure in Valle Aniene on October 17, the time also comes to take stock and take stock of what has been done. A careful analysis must start from the base of the activity and for this we start from the one that represents the lifeblood for every sporting movement, the activity of the Training Centers for Sport.
To do this, we turn to the Director Italo Mastrangelo, delegated by the Federal Council to coordinate and follow the activities of the CAS. Q: Numbers in hand, compared to 2009 the number of participations in the Youth Sector matches has had a small increase, going from 1.312 last year to 1.321 this year. The fact that, despite the economic crisis that our country is going through and consequently the sports world, there has not been a decrease is already positive. You have done even better, you have grown. What's the secret? A: There is no particular recipe.
The only "secret" is to do everything seriously and to use all the passion possible. Since 1992, when it reached almost 300 participations, today we have reached 1.321. This result was possible only thanks to the work of those who, including parents, shooters, instructors, coordinators, have lent their work in a serious and disinterested way, with the sole aim of doing good to our sport. The even more encouraging data is that these numbers refer only to the Olympic disciplines but we must also consider the Universal Trench, the Helix and the Compak, all disciplines in strong growth.
Another element that undoubtedly encouraged participation was the introduction of "scholarships" which are given by the federation to the most deserving shooters of each qualification. D: Analyzing the data divided by specialty, it can be seen that, in the face of a very small decrease in participation in the Olympic Pit, there has been a growth in Skeet and Double Trap, disciplines that in recent years have suffered from a decline in affection by the shooters. What did it depend on? A: The decline in participation in the Olympic Trench has an explanation that fills us with pride. Many athletes of the Cas Centers have in fact been called to the Blue Team and, for this reason, they have not been able to participate in our activities.
An example above all is Jessica Rossi, who after winning the European and World Championships in 2009, this year won the bronze medal and the Olympic Card at the World Championships in Munich. As for the growth of the other two specialties, it was decided to organize preparation stages for Skeet and Double Trap only. Up to now there are four regions that have committed themselves to this, Lombardy, Umbria, Calabria and Lazio. Given the excellent results, we hope that the other regions will also take action as soon as possible. Q: Wanting to make a ranking based on participation in the Youth Sector races, the regions that stand on the podium are Lombardy with 206, Lazio with 196 and Campania with 140.
Should the others be beaten? A: Absolutely not. The regions on the podium are those that, as far as I can remember, are distinguished by a particular activism, but also among the others there are excellent examples of commitment such as Umbria with 82 or Piedmont with 81. We need the numbers to concretely quantify participation but have no value in an absolute sense. They can be an incentive to do more and better but what matters is commitment and dedication.
Our activity has as its main objective the dissemination of skeet shooting among young people, so as to create the largest possible nursery for the future of our disciplines. We have a great history behind us and in order to continue to be the leading nation in the world we must ensure that we do not interrupt the flow of energy that has allowed us to win up to now.
