Hunting and Dogs: Arezzo, dog lovers and the hounds went on stage on the 4th and 5th of July last for the performance of the job trial dedicated to hunting of breed Alpenlaendische Dachsbracke.
On Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th July the work test dedicated toAlpenländische Dachsbracke. The enclosure called “Catinelli” develops in the municipality of Castel Focognano within the Casentino Valley (in the province of Arezzo), the undisputed reign of ungulates. In these wonderful hills you can meet the small roe deer, the fallow deer, the majestic deer and last but not least the wild boar.
These areas, especially in recent years, have recorded a high increase in density, for this reason the hunt for the wild boar "King of the wood" has expanded like wildfire in our lands, becoming the most practiced by local hunters. Consequently also the canine knowledge of the wild boar dogs it has developed with a remarkable cultural and technical maturation, taking different paths. Some have preferred to choose the power, the breadth and the boundless following of our wonderful Maremmano Hound, but also of the various French and Slavic hounds; this preference is due to the type of terrain and vegetation where they are used, the numerical dimensions of the teams and the width of the beats performed.
Others have chosen a diametrically opposite one, the Alpenlaendische Dachsbracke, still little used by us albeit on the rise, but a breed already established in the rest of Italy, an excellent turn dog widely used for control interventions on boar in prohibited areas and where a correct, silent specialist is needed, who signals the presence of the suide and after having raised it carries out a short but effective follow-up, not creating disturbance to other wildlife.
The Alpenlaendische Dachsbracke, a small short-legged hound, able to face even our own wild boars alone, has proven to be fearless in front of the huge boars, with the powerful bark at rest but also friendly and attached to the master so as not to abandon him never for too long. This little big dog to be used in turn must be enabled in special work trials recognized and regulated by the ENCI For this reason, a small group of friends has decided to inaugurate the "Catinelli" dog training area opened last year, with the collaboration of the Italian Federation of Hunting of Arezzo, organizing on 4 and 5 July last, two days of work trials, of limiere dog qualifications in the collection of wild boar and suitable single dog work on wild boar. Up for grabs for the Alpenlaendische Dachsbracke the CAC (certificate of aptitude for the Italian work championship). This zootechnical verification was among the first at a national level and the first ever in Tuscany with the CAC up for grabs
Satisfied by the participation and the high quality level of the driver-hound pairs, almost 30 registered in two days, despite the very high temperatures, above 40 °; many participants in the test came from various Italian regions, to be precise from Bologna, San Miniato, Grosseto, Sansepolcro, Pergine Valdarno, Umbertide, Pesaro, Ancona, Gubbio and Rome. All present at the meeting in Piazza Mazzini in Rassina at 5:00 after many hours of night travel. The dogs, despite the prohibitive temperatures, have been able to treat the wild and have been able to be respected. The “two days of Catinelli” was evaluated by the ENCI Expert Judge Mr. Giuseppe Dodino, a great connoisseur of the hounds of group 6 and in particular of the Dachsbracke. The event was attended by a delegation from the Italian association Alpenlaendische Dachsbrache from Rome, including the President Mr. Antonio Fiore and representing the Federcaccia of Arezzo and the Cinofilo Aretino Group, Mr. Alvaro Paoletti.
The various shifts went smoothly, smoothly and without problems even if the terrible heat didn't help. For Saturday 4th we must mention the beautiful test of Luna, 1st classified, of Marco Paoli of San Miniato with 172 points and of our home the beautiful test of Franco Menchini of Subbiano with his 3 qualified dogs. The realization of the event took place thanks to the collaboration of "indefatigable" people who are committed to making this possible. We thank all the friends who with time, sweat, ardor and even patience helped us to ensure that this adventure ended with a success, a party of handlers and dogs where the relationship is not limited only to the hunting act but to something much bigger especially with a Dachsbracke because they are like that, they live for you, they fill you with love and you reciprocate them as if they were children. Thank you all. (“Recinto Catinelli” group).
