Paul Viezzi, Chairman of the Hunting Federation regional of Friuli Venezia Giulia, wanted to dispel the cliché according to which hunters first shoot and then look, now out of date. Fear and distrust of the hunting world often depend on the fact that very little is known. In Friuli, for example, hunting accidents are rare: we are talking about 9 thousand hunters, of which over 5 thousand are members of the Federation. None of them are improvised, but they followed a specific course and passed exams.
The firearms license for hunting use is obtained after completing a course that lasts 60 hours and which includes a practical part relating to the use of rifles. Once you have dealt with the lessons, it is possible to pick up hares and pheasants with smooth-bore weapons, otherwise you have to face another course if you aim for the boar. The further lessons have to do with the hunting of selection with the rifle and the use of the dog, specifically trained. However, the average age of hunters in Friuli Venezia Giulia is high.
Most side-by-side shotguns are aged between them between 61 and 65 years, but in the last two years the number of children under the age of 25 and women have increased. However, the trend is negative and to talk about a trend reversal we will have to wait some more time. The costs are soon said: the license ranges from 300 to 400 euros, while the maintenance of another 1500 euros per year: another important expense is that of the purchase of the actual rifle.
I am old, I would never kill but, I am not against hunting, In some ways, on the contrary, I believe it, if done in the right way, necessary. I have always owned utility and defense dogs, now, I recently have a female cocker. Ridiculous dog, you say, it is definitely not a Kurzhaar, which I also knew very well… .I would like to test her because in my opinion she has a lot of nose and is possessive and has a lot of temper. I love to see how the hunters' auxiliaries work! I am trying to inform myself to try it without obligation and then eventually if we can continue.
