Giandiego Gatta, vice president of Regional Council of Puglia, published a note to talk about theemergency represented by transfers for this territory. According to the representative of Forza Italia, in fact, the agricultural sector has to deal with a series of difficulties and obstacles. In addition to the delays accumulated since Rural Development Plan and to the negative consequences of the recent frosts, the bird cannot be overshadowed.
For Gatta it's about an unsolved problem: starlings are responsible for the devastation and damage to agricultural crops, therefore concrete actions are needed as soon as possible. Puglia should therefore follow the example of other regions which gave the green light to hunting in derogation to the species: the same type of sampling concerned pigeons and collared turtledoves (other harmful birds) in other parts of Italy and the vice president is convinced that in this way we can give a very strong sign of closeness to farmers.
The derogation does not seem imminent as regards the Apulian hunters, but in the meantime it is necessary to listen carefully the new cry of pain of the primary sector. For all these reasons, Gatta asked the Regional Council and the Emilian governor to urgently resolve the problem.
