Il Beccaccia Study Center of Sardinia has organized for today, Thursday 1 June 2017, a conference dedicated to the bird with a very intriguing title. It is in fact "The woodcock: from Sardinia to Europe", event organized in Cagliari, more precisely from the University of the Aula Salis. What will we talk about specifically? The conference will be presented first of all by Michele Cadeddu, president of the Center, then it will move on to the report of the doctor Paul Pennacchini, president of the FANBPO (Federation of National Woodcock Association of the Western Palearctic) and honorary president of the Beccacciai of Italy.
Space will be given to studies and monitoring of the hunting collection of woodcock in Sardinian territory, then we will take stock of the status of the species that transits and winters on the island. Furthermore, the conference will focus on the analysis of the demographic and abundance trends in three-year period 2014-2016, without forgetting the role of Sardinian woodcock hunters.
We will illustrate how to collect data through the wing of the bird and the pebble and will explain the importance of Boidot method and the different values concerning sex and age. Finally, the importance of involving scientific activities and ethical culture in the hunting field.
