La Sibillini Adventure, a center for environmental sports based in the Sibillini National Park, has organized an introductory course to falconry for January 22, 23 and 24 in Norcia (province of Perugia). It is a seminar that has been specially designed for those who want to approach the world of falconry, but also for those who are already competent and want to learn how to manage their pet even better. The same goes for people who intend to introduce falcons in classical falconry and beyond.
The course is characterized by theoretical lessons, with photos and handouts to deepen the most important topics, and practical lessons, in particular field trips. The center has decided to focus attention ontraining of the Buzzard or Harris's Hawk (Parabuteo unicinctus), that is to say the school falcon par excellence and which has earned the nickname of "wolf hawk" for its habit of living in families made up of dozens of individuals. Who can participate?
The conditions to be met are simple: you have to have at least 14 years (in the case of minors, the authorization of one of the parents is required), moreover, no animals must be brought along, especially dogs. The course will be open to a maximum number of 12 members. The advice also concerns clothing, the best of all is hiking and suitable for the winter season in which the activity takes place. The course program includes a number of very interesting topics.
The list includes thehistorical and theoretical introduction to falconry and the diet that the birds must follow, in addition to the anatomy and diseases that may affect them and the daily care to be administered. There will be references to the prey of the hawk, the flight on the fist, in filagna and on the worn, in addition to the training techniques, the introduction to classical falconry and all the regulations that must be respected. Practical exercises in the field, as already pointed out, will complete the Umbrian seminar.
Participants will receive a certificate of attendance and photos of the experience lived in the three days scheduled. Among other things, the course makes use of the precious collaboration of National Survival Sector CSEN and its instructors. The scenario will be that of the Sibillini Mountains National Park, characterized by several mountains higher than two thousand meters (the highest is Monte Carrier), from the Piana di Castelluccio di Norcia, famous for its spring blooms.
