An all too serious problem
On the 13th a meeting of a delegation of ANUU Regione Piemonte took place at the Ministry of Agriculture made up of; Alessio Abbinante, Regional President of ANUU Piedmont, Paolo Pala, Provincial President of ANUU Alessandria, Federico Riboldi Brothers of Italy Coordinator of the Province of Alessandria Claudio Leone Councilor of the Piedmont Region and President of the III Commission and Dr. Lorenzo Bevilacqua wildlife technician to discuss the PSA issue and the various themes that are a corollary to this serious but unspoken problem. ANUU Regione Piemonte has, from the outset, tried to show how the European protocol is inadequate to the environmental reality of Alessandria.
Next hunting season
The goal for the future, as we illustrated on the occasion of the meeting held at the Ministry of Agriculture, is to achieve a progressive extension of the band I restriction area (former buffer area) in order to safeguard both the agricultural world and the next season hunting. It has been brought to attention that it is necessary to increase (or rather start) felling starting from the easternmost slope and gradually reaching close to the famous 'protection' network. It will therefore be the slaughtered animals (although not intended for self-consumption) that will provide essential data for determining the presence and spread of the virus. It is therefore necessary to launch a protocol that clarifies the procedures for being able to declare a single district not affected by the PSA and therefore being able to insert it in band I (and therefore being able to allow self-consumption).
Eloquent percentages
According to ISPRA data, an average of 300 wild boars are killed in Italy a year, 000% of which during the hunting season: 86% hunted… 88% wandering… 2% wandering and in this regard it is it is good to remember that a large part of zone I is not zoned today and in any case, since it is a plain crossed by major communication routes, it does not lend itself to this form of intervention). Containment accounts for 1% and of this only half with single interventions. It can be deduced that containment, seen as the panacea for PSA, affects less than 9% of slaughters.
ASF contagion
For this reason, given that the legislation provides for it and considering the orographic characteristics of the area, it is necessary that containment takes place with the help of dogs. The depopulation, another vexata quaestio, was carried out in areas completely unrelated to the PSA, instead of being concentrated where it was really needed. In the meeting held at the Ministry of Agriculture, it was asked that the resources committed, men, means and money be invested where they are really needed, in order to avoid the risk of not curbing the ASF contagion, failing to contain the damage and put an end to wild boar hunting for the first time in a year now our positions have been shared (source: ANUU Migratoristi Regione Piemonte).
