Il Provincial Council of Varese decided to approve with a large majority the motion of the Democratic Party with which the Lombardy Region was asked to suspend hunting for two years in the Campo dei Fiori area hit by recent forest fires. The provision was requested by the director Luca Paris and was approved with ten favorable votes e five opposites.
The yeses to the blockade of hunting came from the same PD and from the Lega, while two no came from Forza Italia. The Regional Park dominates the Varese hilly area and the Po Valley and is bordered to the north west by the Valcuvia, to the east by the Valganna and to the south by the city of Varese. A few days ago the Municipality of Varese had asked the Region to stop hunting until December 31, 2019, except for measures envisaged to contain harmful or dangerous species.
Furthermore, the Regional Councilor for Agriculture, Gianni Fava, had provided for the temporary closure through a specific decree following the fires described above. Specifically, the blockade imposed by Fava had to last for fifteen days, from 1 to 16 November last and in the municipalities of Comerio, Barasso, Luvinate, Casciago, Varese and Brinzio.
