Enough about wild boars Far West and just throwing figures without first making precise checks. The cUmbrian organization of wild boar teams reply to farmers' associations. "As a coordination of wild boar hunting teams - they argue in a letter - we consider some proposals to be absurd, formulated by the presidents and vice-presidents of ATC who ask for an increase (doubling) of the registration fee for hunters in order to find money to cover wildlife damage compensation ”.
They also reiterate that in their opinion there is a "need for a management plan that is discussed and shared among all stakeholders (institutions, farmers, environmentalists, hunters), to arrive at a serious project for the containment of the wild boar species and consequent reduction of damage. We need plausible estimates of the population - they say - also through the use of technologies. It is necessary to divide the territory into three bands: suited for hunted, critical for other forms of hunting (single or shot from three to six), not suited in which one intervenes with the selection ".
Finally, they ask for "a public supply chain in which culled animals are sold and the proceeds divided into three parts: 34% for damages, 33% for sowing throwaway crops, 33% for the release of permanent noble game in protected areas". Ultimately a very clear position on what is a problem that has been dragging on for years and that does not only concern the territory of the Umbria region, but practically the whole country. In the last historical period the ungulate population has grown significantly. The damage that wild animals cause to crops has increased, but also the number of road accidents they unintentionally cause (Corriere dell'Umbria).
