The lawyer Paul Viezzi, Chairman of the Regional Federcaccia of Friuli Venezia Giulia, wrote to the Governor Massimiliano Fedriga to talk about animal welfare. In particular, Viezzi referred to the letter sent to the Region by some animal welfare associations in defense of Law 20 of 2012. These are precisely the "Rules for the welfare and protection of pets". The legislative text and the regulation cost the Region and several citizens each year more than one million euros.
Part of this money is reserved for contributions to the animal welfare associations themselves. Furthermore, 600 thousand euros are needed just to insure the Udine dog shelter. The sums just mentioned are subtracted from public activities and services that Federcaccia Friuli Venezia Giulia considers much more important. For example, they are subtracted health, safety, work and school. Viezzi believes that one more radiological machine or one more school class and one less kennel would save many lives. In addition, the waiting times of many public services would be reduced.
The hunting association now expects un revision of the animal welfare regulation, especially in the most absurd and expensive parts. The concrete commitment of the Regional Council should be in the name of balance as regards administrative action, primarily pursuing the values and fundamental human needs.
