Federcaccia Sardegna and the Avifauna Migratory Office, scientific data in hand, do not agree with the decision of the Region not to extend the closure of the Bottaccio Thrush to 31 January.
In the session of January 22, 2013, the Sardinian Regional Wildlife Hunting Committee did not approve the extension to January 31 of the hunt for the Bottaccio Thrush, considering that there were no supporting data and therefore confirming the ordinance of the Council of State of January 17 that he had accepted the precautionary request of the environmentalists bringing the closing back to January 10th.
From a legal point of view, the order of the CDS had considered that there was no adequate motivation in the approved calendar which provided for the closure on January 31st for Tordo Bottaccio and Cesena. The assessment of FIdC is that in the suspended Committee resolution the scientific reasons that Federcaccia had brought in the technical report were not explained in detail, which in any case provided for the closure of Cesena on 20 and not on 31 January missing, only for the latter species regional data deviating from the national Key Concepts.
Sardinia is the Italian region for which the most evident proof is available that the migration of the Bottaccio Thrush does not start before the third decade of January (Ispra data of recaptures in Sardinia of birds ringed abroad) and was therefore possible using the decade of overlap provided for by the Interpretation Guide of the Birds Directive and by Ispra will close the season on 31 January.
In fact, through the use of regional data, the hunting season for song thrush ends on 31 January in Calabria, Lazio, Marche, Umbria, Liguria (subsequently extended). We hope from the Region of Sardinia a more favorable approach to the hunting world for the 2013/2014 season.
