The renunciation of animal rights activists
Hunting remains open in Lombardy. No suspension on the hunting season, we continue as per the hunting calendar! A wonderful piece of news after recent years, in which our world had suffered setbacks on the same topic. At the TAR of Milan for Federcaccia Lombardia there was the President, lawyer. Lorenzo Bertacchi to defend the hunting calendar in support of the Lombardy Region. “The judges invited the appellant to renounce the precautionary application, proposing the setting of a hearing to deal with the entire issue in December and therefore the hunt for September remains open - is the message from the regional President -. Now I can really wish you good luck for the next few days, have fun and hunt with caution." We remember that the appeal to the Lac Regional Administrative Court concerned the hunting calendar and not the issue of lead!. There is also satisfaction on the part of the Lombardy Region, starting with the regional councilor for Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forestry Alessandro Beduschi.
Support for the calendar
“The TAR - declares Beduschi - asked the LAC, which had appealed, to renounce its precautionary requests, which in recent years had always been accepted, resulting in the immediate stop to hunting activities. The appeal will then be discussed on its merits in December. I would like to think that the defense briefs filed by the Lombardy Region have best supported our calendar, presented after long and in-depth work which led the regional offices to produce scientifically rigorous documentation without any ideological preconceptions". We had written more than once in Cacciapensieri that the reasons presented by the Region for departing from the Ispra opinion had been well done, in-depth and argued. Also thanks to the DG Andrea Maccari who carried out a painstaking job.
The reasons for the appeal
The judges certainly read carefully the defense briefs of both the Region and the lawyers of the hunting associations and understood how the reasons for the animal rights activists' appeal were more ideological than concrete. Suspending the hunting activity would have forced them to write fake reasons, forced to climb on the glass as nothing really founded was present in the appeal. And therefore the judges postponed the discussion to December during which, we presume, it will have to go with technical and non-ideological reasons, in a Court that will want to see scientific studies, the European Directives on calendars, on sampling times, the so-called Key Concepts , in short, we will have to talk about concrete topics and not personal ideas. Ispra makes a terrible impression and we are stunned that to date no one has yet summoned the Director of the Institute to the Ministry of the Environment to ask him to account for the statements contained in the opinions on the draft regional calendars, because not only Lombardy has received this document. Where is the politics? Where is the Minister? Who should dictate the lines of the Government's attitude, because this is what Ispra does: a manager and state employees or someone who has been democratically elected and holds a political position, i.e. one of direction and planning? This little show must stop. We would have accepted the judges' decision whatever it was but at the same time we cannot express our satisfaction, without triumphalist tones, because it is clear that the judges of the TAR of Milan missed the mark on animal rights banalities.
Criticism of the Government
However, the main problem remains on which the Italian Government and the majority politics have truly made a fool of themselves. The European Regulation banning the use of ammunition containing lead in wetlands dates back to November 2021. Since then it was known that it would come into force on 15 February 2023. Ministry of the Environment and Ministry of Agriculture with the collaboration of MEP Pietro Fiocchi they limited themselves to producing an interpretative circular thinking of resolving the issue. The EU and Lazio Regional Administrative Court took care of bringing them back to earth and throwing the hunting world into chaos. Now some amendments have been presented to the Omnibus law, the name is already a program, which if all goes well will be published in the Official Journal in November. There is only one question: why so much inertia, so much ease and such light-heartedness on hunting matters on the part of the Government? Why, for example, are the regional councilors elected by the hunters, who also became councilor for Tourism and Fashion, like Barbara Mazzali silent? This story is shameful and we will continue to talk about it (source: FIDC Brescia).
