There are just over three weeks left until the conference that was conceived and organized by Federcaccia Sicily to talk about woodcock, aquatic and small migratory: the goal of the appointment is to make known the commitment of the federation as regards knowledge and management of species. The debate will take place at the Rex Theater of Giarre, in the province of Catania, and will allow you to deepen all the initiatives and research that have been carried out. Who was called to intervene next 30th April? After the introduction and greetings by Chain Of Bella, provincial number one of Federcaccia Catania, and of Joseph LaRussa, regional president of Federcaccia Sicilia, it will be the turn of the speakers.
The list includes Lorenzo Carnacina, vice-president of Federcaccia Nazionale, Michael Sorrenti, scientific director of the Migratory Birdlife Office of the association, Romuald Ciro, national president of UCIM (Union of Italian Migration Hunters), Alessandro Tedeschi, president of "Amici di Scolopax", e Daniel Tramontana, technician of the Migratory Birdlife Office. The conclusions will also be handled by La Russa. The topic of the conference has been current on the island for several years now. In particular, it should be remembered that in 2010 Sicily turned out to be the most interesting region of our country as regards the observation of autumn migration.
These are the results of theEurobirdwatch of that year, an initiative that allows you to "build" a real one map of migration routes in European countries. The small migratory has shown to prefer above all three wetlands, namely the "Saline di Priolo" nature reserve (in the province of Syracuse), la Vendicari reserve (same area) and the Longarini marsh, in the province of Ragusa. The Vendicari Reserve, in particular, has been talked about for the specimens of a rare species, the greater tern, without forgetting the flamingos and many other birds. In Ragusa, however, the rare specimens of albastrello, the fighters, other flamingos and the ferruginous duck have embellished the visits of enthusiasts and experts.
We must not neglect, then, the specimens of sultan chicken, which was introduced again a few years ago in Sicily (extinction dates back to 1957) and the hoopoes. The topics to talk about are therefore many and of considerable interest. Among the possible starting points for the debate is the project of the Federcaccia Birdlife Migration Office (in collaboration with the ACMA) on the actual start dates of the migration of anatidae and waterfowl throughout Italy, a study aimed at update the document known as "Ornis Key Concepts", the official text adopted by the European Union to determine hunting seasons.
