Hunting and Fauna: Marche, launch of the monitoring project of the Alzavola species via satellite telemetry.
Thanks to the collaboration and financial support from the Regional ACMA, Federcaccia Marche, the CST, the Territorial Areas of Hunting Ancona 1, Macerata 2 and Pesaro 2, the satellite telemetry project for theteal, aimed at increasing the knowledge of the species, with a technical management aimed at guaranteeing a sustainable sampling supported by irrefutable data that only scientific research can give. This project is carried out throughout the national territory by the ACMA, by the Federcaccia migratory birds office, in collaboration with the university center for research on game and environmental improvements for wildlife purposes and with the University of Pisa, and has the following goals: - identification of nesting areas; - definition of the migration lines; - definition of migratory phenology; - study of local movements; - study of land use during wintering.
With satellite technology, real-time information is obtained on the movement of the monitored teals, locating them with extreme precision; subjects of female teal wintering in Italy are interested in the study. These, after capture, are identified by a ring provided by Ispra (National Institute for Research and Environmental Protection), and, once the biometric data has been detected, the satellite transmitters are mounted on the back of the teal by means of a special harness affixed to do not disturb.
Thanks to those who have contributed to the realization of this project which will allow to acquire new information on the species for both hunting and conservation management.
The Regional Vice President Federcaccia Nazzareno Galassi
