Il National Union of Hunters updated the situation relating to the request a month and a half ago at Wildlife Service of the Department of Agriculture of the Sicily Region. The association had turned to the local authority to obtain the data on culls of the song thrush and woodcock in the last hunting seasons. This information is essential to understand if the culls of the two species increase or decrease in second decade of January than the first.
In the event of a decrease, it would be possible to postpone the closure of the hunt for thrushes and woodcocks until January 31, in full compliance with Community legislation (migratory birds cannot be hunted during the review). The Syndicate has obtained the data and they leave no room for doubt.
In the second ten days of January, the culls fell abruptly, consequently the "review" has not begun. The commissioner Antonello Cracolici will now have the task of translating scientific information into legal norms, allowing the Sicilian hunters to carry out hunting activities for the whole month, as is already the case in other Italian regions.
