The board of directors of the Portofino park unanimously ratified the decree of last September 13 for the final and advance approval of the wildlife plan of control of wild boars. As is known, the emergency represented by these ungulates is particularly serious in Liguria and residents are increasingly concerned. Hunting activities were restarted in the park to reduce the number of wild animals.
Control is considered priority and urgent: all available resources will be exploited, including park rangers and assistants. Furthermore, the same Board of Directors considers the collaboration between institutions, citizens and hunters to be fundamental, in order to resolve in a concrete way an increasingly complex and uncomfortable situation. The path isn't straightforward, but the plan looks promising.
The species is traditionally hunted from September to December, although generally a little beyond the end of the year. Furthermore, until not too many years ago the control of the wild boar was guaranteed by the Provincial Police during the whole year. The Regional Natural Park of Portofino has existed since 1935 and is located in the Ligurian Riviera di Levante, to be precise about thirty kilometers from Genoa: the main municipalities that are included in its territory are Camogli, Portofino itself and Santa Margherita Ligure.
