The usual acronyms animal-environmentalists have sent a letter to the Italian Regions in which they ask, on the basis of incorrect or outdated arguments, the no hunting of wild turtledove for the next hunting season. Incredibly, these acronyms omit the final decision agreed at the European level in the International Working Group for the Adaptive levy on the dove, formalized in the documents of the European Commission available to the public on the site https://circabc.europa.eu. A decision that has established for the central-eastern European range the maintenance of the hunting of this wild during the next season with a withdrawal reduced by 50% compared to previous years. The decision is therefore the continuation of the hunting of the species with these prescriptions and not the prohibition.
Italy is included in the central-eastern area with all the regions except Piedmont and Liguria which are part of the western area, where the Commission proposal (not agreed) is to suspend the withdrawal. Federcaccia is working alongside the Italian Regions to implement both European decisions and most of the Regions are issuing calendars that reduce the maximum seasonal levy by half (10 heads instead of 20), the pre-opening days and the hunting period after the third Sunday of September. Thus, for example, Veneto has reduced the seasonal game bag to 10 heads, Basilicata and Abruzzo did the same. Other Regions will follow this proposal by also reducing the pre-opening days.
Undoubtedly a sacrifice, but in any case preferable to the absolute prohibition of withdrawals and in any case a reduction that would only affect this season while waiting to review the data. These are the facts, evidently unwelcome to the anti-hunting acronyms mentioned above who, struck home in one of their ideological battles, clumsily try to threaten the Regional Councilors and Officials or to justify those aligned with their ideas: behavior to say the least shameful, which increasingly distances their world from the institutions, from a properly informed society and from the possibility of dialogue for the conservation of biodiversity.
Federcaccia has already taken action in the Italian Regions, urging the implementation of the Commission proposal and inviting them not to take into account the inconsistent arguments and tendentious present in the letter signed by the anti-hunt acronyms (Source: Federcaccia).
