FITAV: Indian Open Championship, the Italian champions Simona Scocchetti and Valerio Luchini dedicate their victory to the Italian Marò still held in India.
The first race of the Indian Open Championship and the Patiala Many Bagh Gun Club facility was immediately tinged with blue. Simona Scocchetti wins the skeet match: with a score of 71/75 she won over the Thai Nutcha Sutarpon (69) and the Kuvaitian Afrah Mohammad (66). “I am happy with the victory, of course - commented the twenty-seven year old shooter in force at the Gs Army - but my head these days has continually thought of Massimiliano Latorre and Salvatore Girone, of my two colleagues who are always detained here in India. I could do something I would. I carry the defense of the army, I feel a strong sense of homeland. They too are two soldiers (marò, ed). I would do anything to see them happy. My victory goes to them ”.
“This trip - concludes Simona - is sweet and bitter for all of us. We are here to practice our sport, to represent our homeland, but not being able to do anything for our two compatriots detained, in our opinion unfairly here, creates us an infinite magone. We would like to do something for them, we can unfortunately only remember that they are here and are suffering far from their families ”.
In India, again on the Patalia plant, in the following days Rodolfo Viganò (Forestale), Federica Caporuscio (Forestale), Valerio Luchini (Carabinieri), athletes who serve in the State Copri competed. Among these, Valerio Luchini continues on the victorious path for the Azzurri: on the Many Bagh Gun Club in Patiala where the 28-year-old Roman of the Carabinieri Sports Group in the skeet race earned the bronze with a score of 142 +1, beaten at the playoff from Saif Bin Futtais (UAE) with 142 + 2. The victory is from Indian Daniel Allan with 143.
Lucchini also dedicated the race to the two Italian Maròs, “I dedicate this medal to our two colleagues Massimiliano Latorre and Salvatore Girone - said the Roman carabiniere. I didn't win but I shot for the two Maròs who have been detained here for a lifetime. I missed a target to get on the top step of the podium, something important was missing here if they are still stuck. As a team we have decided to commit ourselves to death in order to win and have the opportunity to talk about them and their situation. We athletes with uniforms feel the call of the homeland strong and we are not convinced that more can and should be done to free the two of them ".
Continuing Lucchini said, “I hope everything has been done, I hope that again in Italy we will go back to taking care of Max and Salvatore. It is not possible that they are still here. We will try to win all the races, but for them we are ready to answer any order. We can't stand two colleagues being unjustly imprisoned here and no solution can be found. We all wear uniforms and are ready to respond to orders. Massimiliano and Salvatore cannot suffer any more and their families cannot wait ”.
To make the dedication of the two Azzurri even more concrete, Valerio Luchini and Simona Scocchetti have expressed the desire to deliver the medals won directly to the 2 colleagues. To this end, Federal President Luciano Rossi tried to intervene directly with the Indian Federal President, son of the Indian Foreign Minister, to make this delivery possible.
