Caccia Pesca Ambiente attacks the Region of Sicily on the question of the establishment of the Peloritani Park; attention to the risks of abolition of hunting.
The association Caccia, Pesca, Ambiente attacks the Region for the desire to establish yet another park in an area where there are already 65.000 hectares of protected territory. And warns against the risks of abolition of the hunting. Above all, the increase in the presence of wild boars that are already pushing almost as far as the city in search of food.
We have been talking about the establishment of the Peloritani Park and its strategic value for years. For the proponents, the park would enhance the territory and would have positive repercussions from an environmental and tourist point of view. Especially since in recent months even the regional councilor for the environment, Maurizio Croce from Messina, said he was in favor of the project he intends to complete. The “Hunting, Fishing, Environment” association is now making a comeback on the matter. On the contrary, the institution of parks penalizes those who live and work within these areas.
A recent journalistic investigation found that the four Sicilian parks cost around 16 million euros a year. According to Marisa Calafiura and Salvatore Panassidi, provincial heads of hunting, fishing and the environment, in the face of these expenses, nothing or little has been done in these areas where nature is protected and where we find ourselves doing the slalom between garbage, appliances, asbestos . No paths, no equipped areas and non-existent or damaged fences. Moreover, according to the hunting association, already within the area destined to the Peloritani Park fall 25.000 hectares of sites of community interest, 30.000 of Zps, the natural reserve of Monte Scuderi for a total of over 65.000 hectares of protected territory . What sense does it make - he asks Hunting, fishing and the environment - to bind a large area already protected and subject to prohibitions?
And therefore the old quarrel between environmentalists and hunters reappears. The latter fear that the establishment of the Peloritani Park would totally prohibit hunting and introduce a delicate theme that of the increasingly massive presence of wild boars on our mountains. The disappearance of the hunters on the Peloritani - explain Panassidi and Calafiura - would allow the boars to multiply excessively while already today they descend in groups close to the condominiums even in viale Giostra and Torrente Trapani in some cases causing considerable damage. In short, according to the hunting association Messina and the people of Messina would have no advantage from the establishment of the park and asked for a comparison with the municipal administration to discuss the most gory issues.
