Jyrki katainen, number two of the European Commission for jobs, growth, investments and competitiveness, was one of the main speakers at the ceremony that opened the 63rd General Assembly of the International Council for Hunting and Wildlife Conservation (CIC). The event took place last April 22 in Brussels and it was an important moment to deepen the issues related to hunting.
According to Katainen, a very active hunter as well as a political exponent, hunting always requires responsibility, sustainability and transparency. The former Finnish premier has made an appeal to hunters and hunting organizations to do their utmost to give prestige to what they represent. His wish was to a joint and fruitful work to reach common goals. Another statement of great impact is that according to which "Hunting generates passions, for or against hunters".
The vice president cited the Habitat Directive and has focused attention on initiatives concerning another directive, the “Birds” directive, to be carried out through a constructive dialogue between hunters themselves and environmentalists. The last mention concerned the importance of the cooperation of the community platform that aims at the coexistence between citizens and large carnivores, signed in 2014 by eight large organizations, including the CIC.
