The municipal section of lacchiarella (province of Milan) of the Italian Federation of Hunting has organized for the day of Sunday 21 February a practical hunting test on quail released without firing. The area chosen for the event is the one in which type B dogs are trained, to be precise in the former Cascina Guzzafame in the homonymous street (it is a free land of the Milanese municipality). The races in the race will be the English and the Continental ones, while the prizes are soon said: the first, second and third classified in the "Continental" category will receive cups, as well as the first three in the "English" category.
Furthermore, for the first three hunters of both categories, cups and cartridges are provided. In addition, it will be awarded a bottle of wine for the fourth and fifth place. The start has been set at 8, while registrations can be made directly on the competition field. All dogs participating in the Lombard test must have a microchip or a tattoo and be equipped with a collar and a leash: a muzzle is required for biting animals.
This test on quail released without firing is one of those recognized by theItalian National Dog-loving Body (ENCI). The game valid for the qualifications and the final classification is the one suitable for the evaluation of the dog's work. The judge orders and controls the placing of the birds on the ground where the test is carried out, with a distribution throughout the useful field. The most rewarded characteristic in English breeds is that of rapid and sustained gait, without forgetting the search well open to the sides and of the right depth: the judge will also evaluate the greed, courage and correctness in the whip in a positive way, while the moment of the shot is not foreseen as a qualification criterion.
On the other hand, there are several mistakes that must not be made if you want to avoid elimination. For example, dogs must not lack initiative and their action cannot be discontinuous. In the same way, disordered or intermittent searches are punished, as well as style that does not conform to the race, action that does not conform to the type of evidence and lack of background. Finally, the argument also applies to the refusal of consent, the insistent suspicion, the avoidance of the wild (in this case the quail), the stunted consent and the lack of immobility when whirling.. In short, we must pay the utmost attention to the behavior of dogs and handlers.
