Federcaccia: considerable success for the conference "Knowing to manage" held in Foligno (PG) to discuss migratory birds.
The conference, organized on Friday 12 October at Palazzo Trinci by the Federcaccia di Foligno in collaboration with the provincial and regional sections of Perugia, entitled “Knowing to manage”, coordinated by the journalist of “Sentieri di Caccia” Vladimiro Palmieri, participated and was successful. Dedicated mainly to studies on migratory avifauna - a special National Office has been in operation for over two years in Federcaccia -, the meeting recorded the presence of numerous woodcock and turdidae enthusiasts, but also selectors who are dedicated to the management of ungulate mammals. .
The honor of the greetings went to the municipal councilor Salvatore Stella - a passionate hunter - and to the provincial president of the Federcaccia Perugia Alessandro Barbino, who spoke of creating the migratory birds and sedentary fauna offices in Umbria. Then we moved on to the technical relations, with Dr. Umberto Sergiacomi - head of the Regional Wildlife Observatory - who illustrated some introductory technical elements regarding the census activity of the various species in the Umbrian territory, and Dr. Luca Convito, of the service of Wildlife Management and Environmental Protection of the Umbria Region, which explained the rudiments of calculating the trend of the different wild populations.
Of particular interest was the speech by the national vice president of the Italian Federation of Hunting Lorenzo Carnacina, head of the Fidc migratory birds office, called to discuss the topic “The acquisition of data in favor of the future of hunting”.
The top manager explained the importance, for the hunting world, of systematizing scientific data to safeguard wild species and hunting itself. “There are no 'Italian' shortcuts or saviors of the homeland of the last hour - said Carnacina -, whether they are disguised as councilors or as MEPs. The only path is that of scientific research, and we all must do our part to help it. If we love game and hunting, we must not be afraid to exercise it, aware of our duty to conserve the species for our children, with passion and hunting ethics. The fate of all of us, not just hunters - concluded the vice president - is linked to the knowledge and conservation of the billions of migratory birds that cross our skies every year ”.
The intervention of Carnacina was followed by that of the president of the "Amici di scolopax" association, as well as head of the Scolopax Overland project, Alessandro Tedeschi, who spoke about satellite radio telemetry at the service of the study of migration, illustrating the first data from radio collars applied to some woodcocks captured last winter, thanks to funding from Federcaccia, some Italian regions and some regional sections of the Fidc, including the Umbrian one.
In closing, the national vice president of Federcaccia Massimo Buconi spoke on the future of hunting and the Fidc.
