It is undoubtedly a great satisfaction for the National Federcaccia and Federcaccia Abruzzo, the only association to appeal to the Regional Administrative Court, the decision taken unanimously by the Abruzzo regional council in the session of 9 October to introduce Regional hunting calendar 5 species classified as huntable, inexplicably and unreasonably not included in the previous version, namely gadwall, codon, shoveler, pochard and whisk.
The decision is consequent to the appeal made on this and other points by Federcaccia before the TAR Abruzzo, which with Decree 211 / 2018 - as reported by the Resolution - had expressed to the Region the need to reconsider the hunting calendar in consideration of the species now included, as well as fighter and brunette for which the Region has decided instead to comply with the opinion expressed by Ispra. Federcaccia had decided to appeal before what he considered an unjust penalty e meaningless to hunters, even in the criticisms of almost all the other regional AAVV which obviously did not consider these species important and of sufficient hunting interest.
The facts - and the judiciary - proved us right this time too, as it happened on the same topic in 2016 in Piedmont. Beyond the concrete result, it should be emphasized the affirmation of the principle that even hunting associations can - and must - challenge the hunting calendars if these are penalizing against a sustainable exercise of hunting, as well as the fact that it is necessary to a firm point on the competences of the Regions regarding the reduction of the list of huntable species and hunting times, with unjustified and unjustly limiting provisions for hunters. We await the decisions of the Regional Administrative Court for all the other issues that Federcaccia had brought to the attention of the Administrative Judges.
