As announced by the association Arch Hunting, there was the full reopening of the Vicchio “I Campioni” Dog Training Area, in the province of Florence. The forced closure of a week was necessary for the execution of urgent maintenance work on part of the fence. The area is located on the hills north of the Tuscan town in a wooded area of chestnut trees towards the slopes of Monte Verruca on the Apennines. From the enclosure it is possible to observe a unique spectacular panorama of a landscape of one of the most beautiful and important valleys for the history of Tuscany and our country.
The fencing of the area was built in 1997 with the financial commitment of the provincial Arci Caccia of Florence and with the voluntary labor of the members of the Circolo Arci Caccia of Vicchio. The management, yesterday and today, still engages the partners of Vicchio for almost the whole year with daily presences during opening periods but no less commitment during the rest of the year with checks of the large fence and with the necessary assiduous presence for the maintenance and care of the small hare breeding. It has been like this for over twenty years.
Every year, from the opening, from the best schools for hares, which takes place on the first Sunday of February until the closing which is at the end of July, the enclosure, open except Tuesdays and Fridays, is always busy and this year too it is no longer possible to find a place in the short term. The number of interested parties has gradually become increasingly large due to the characteristics of the place which are very suitable for both adult hounds and puppies. The meeting with "the owl" always happens also for the right balance of hares present inside. Hounds from Florence, Prato, even Romagna as well as all the "lepraioli" of Mugello arrive in this dog training area to be followed on the hare.
