With a letter addressed to Massimiliano Fedriga, President of the State-Regions Conference, Hon. Mariastella Gelmini, Minister for Regional Affairs and Autonomies, and for information to the Presidents of the Regions and the Hon. Deborah Bergamini, Undersecretary of State for Relations with Parliament, the Recognized National Hunting Associations, which are part of the Control Room of the Hunting World (Italian Federation of Hunting, National Free Hunting Association, Enalcaccia, Arcicaccia, AnuuMigratoristi, Italcaccia, Ente Produttori Game) and the National Hunting and Nature Committee once again face the dove question. Around this game and the possibility of its hunting, the usual sad script of a show already seen was staged once again in Italy.
Hiding behind the equally usual rebound of competences and responsibilities, it was ensured that months of serious, coherent and respectful work and commitment carried out by recognized hunting associations to reach a unanimous consensus on the management plan of the wild turtledove, condition required by the European Commission in order to keep the hunting days for this game in the regional hunting calendars, even if in a reduced way, have so far been nullified by an evident insensitivity, perhaps due to ideological prejudices that they cannot belong to the institutions of our government. In fact, from 23 April 2021, the date on which agreement was reached on the Plan for the national management of the turtle dove, this was not examined by the State Regions Conference due to its failure to register on the agenda, due to an evident culprit. inertia of both same Conference that of the competent Ministry.
An inertia that goes against any logic as well as in contrast with the precise duty of the public administration to find definition a issues of competence of public bodies or submitted to them and which clearly shows how the political will is to always and in any case consent to any protectionist request, whether justified or not by the objectivity of the facts. For this reason, the Associations gathered in the Control Room formally requested a timely meeting for the definition, by next August 30th, of the examination of the Plan, ready to take the necessary measures if this request is also rejected.
On this occasion, the Hunting Control Room intends to extend a heartfelt thanks to the Presidents of the Region who in the drafting of the Plan first and the definition of the hunting calendars afterwards, with sense of responsibility towards a class of citizens worthy of attention and respect and aware of their institutional role, they have assumed the courage to deliberate in order to include the turtledove species among those being sampled.
