The advance of the closure of the hunt ad some species in Abruzzo, a decision taken by the Region, has displeased the hunting associations, Italcaccia in the first place. The provincial section of Pescara has decided to comment on the situation, contesting the choice that risks leading to incorrect actions. Here's what you can read in the president's note Gabriel Ermesino: “With the measure it was ordered to close the woodcock hunt in advance and limit the collection of the wild in 4 days very specific. An intervention that according to the Region and ISPRA, it was necessary to adopt in order to ensure that the aforementioned species, during the period of reproduction, is not hunted and does not suffer the greatest hunting pressures in the period, considered more favorable.
ISPRA states that it would be preferable to collect the aforementioned species in 4 days but it does not set and establish very precise rules. Furthermore, it must be borne in mind that by doing so, the hunting pressure on the woodcock species increases and does not decrease since many hunters will concentrate in large numbers, especially in those days when the species can be hunted. Another negative note and strongly in contrast with what is expressed by the competent institutional bodies, is that the woodcock can be hunted in the neighboring regions until January 31st. So you have to ask yourself why, only in Abruzzo do you have to adapt to certain rules?
Right here in Abruzzo, this and more happens, in a region now considered the green lung of Italy and where every year we find ourselves fighting for a decent hunting calendar or at least equal to that of the neighboring regions. Italcaccia has always shown itself close to the problems linked to migration, so much so that several times, in the regional consultancy, it has expressed the idea of limiting the hunting of woodcock in January to 3 fixed days per week with the collection of a maximum garment per day and in any case until January 31st.
Another fundamental note was played by the climate which, unfortunately this year, during the most frequent periods of the species, did not allow the hunting of the same. The early closure of the woodcock could even more to exacerbate the common sense of every hunter thus forcing it to transgress the current provisions, as it is encouraged by the fact that in the neighboring regions hunting of the same species is allowed until January 31st. The Abruzzo Region could have evaluated many aspects before taking such decisions on the matter; in doing so he denigrated the hunters category by launching a clear signal that is to be against the passion that binds many hunters in the full compliance with the rules".
